  1. Mr. Nameless,
Please search the google for this topic. You will find hundreds of articles for and against the drinking of water during meals. Just remember they are all mostly from developed countries where salt intake is very very less than India, especially Tamilnadu.

Another thing is if I suggest that suicide will end all your problems, will you commit it? Don't you have brain? Should you not analyse any information you come across for its relevance to you?

Opinions expressed in blogs are only one's own perceptions and following them is at your own discretion.

Why do you hide behind the "Nameless"? You are not traceable. It is total cowardice.

  2. Mr Kandasamy

No it's not cowardice. Just because there's a facility in Google blogs, like in yours, for posting anonymously, readers use it to post comments. It cannot be called hiding ID cowardly as your blog posts are on ordinary matters of everyday life like eating and sleeping and my comments thereon are decently worded. There's no secret sharing of information or like that. Why shouldn't comments be anything - with ID or w/o it? Your blog is open to all to read and post.

Different readers may have different reasons for posting anonymously. My reason is that it is my comments, not my ID, which are relevant to you. My name is useless to you. Still you can put up a disclaimer that unanymous comments won't be entertained This will help me to know you are interested in the ID of your commentators and I'll definitely post with name.

Now that you want to know, let me inform you that my name is Pa Vinayagam. I post my feedback comments in many blogs in that name; and sometimes, out of laziness, unanimously They're decently worded in English and in Tamil I have a blog in English https://throughalookingglassalaymanreflects.wordpress.com

Next my comments on the contents of your message
  3. You are posting scientific information Whether to drink water with meal or not is a medical information But you have not adduced any basis for that If it is an ordinary personal experience it is ok to write w/o any supporting evidence But it is a medical information Your argument is ''I'll post any medical information w/o any evidence and it's for readers to go and trace the evidence'' No one will accept that It's your responsibility to give that also

Next you say readers should not lap up what's offered by you. In that case readers won't take you seriously. You are an old man with a lot of experiences in life and readers look upon you with confidence. You are saying in effect that they shouldn't take you seriously at all.

If I go to google for such information, why should I come to you?

  5. Mr. ......

Blog is there to share personal experiences. It is not a scientific journal. For expressing personal experiences, I don't think that I have to quote references.

Learning from others experience is one way of gaining knowledge. One need not blindly believe in other's experiences. It is only to stimulate one's thinking and not more than that.

As I have already mentioned that if I say suicide is a panacea for all human problems and if somebody takes it literally, it is foolishness.

Anyhow I am immensely thankful to you for having taken pains to answer my comments.

Hope you are aware that such arguments should not be taken as personal affrontation and we should stop at that level.

  6. No I disagree. It may be your personal experiences but your blogpost gives medical information based on your experiences: digestion and what induces or prevents it. Perfect medical matter.

All medical information is based on a variety of personal experiences of various people. To arrive at a medical discovery, physicians may examine 1000s of people. Sometimes on themselves also. (the theme of the famous novel Dr Jekyll and Mr Hide). Your doctor, in wanting to know what is ailing you and the reasons for that, asks you first about your personal history: What have you eaten last? Have you had a sound sleep? etc.

Whether readers may themselves go and examine the basis for your post or not is your guess or wish.

You've known my name. Has it helped you in any way? Your name doesn't matter to me at all. If it is any other Samy, instead of Kandasamy, will the meaning of your words change? A rose by any other name will smell as sweet !

Your age and your attitude are quite at variance. Usually people mellow with age but in your case, you are hardening with age. As we grow old, we grow to take men and matters philosophically and become more forgiving. Your are an octogenarian now. Even if you become a nonagenarian or centenarian, that life will be lonely with your faculties going down. Lets bid farewell to all - our loved ones and others - with a smile on our faces. It's too late to be a gentleman. Be quick and smile.

Let not the world say: 'He left the name at which the world grew pale !'

With these words (not mine, but Samuel Johnson's), bidding farewell to you. I'll never enter here.

  7. Dear Mr. ...
You may disagree with many things I write about. But it is a known fact that when people have no valid points to argue, they resort to personal abuse. That is what you are doing now. I have no grievance against you for this because this is the normal human behaviour of which you are no exception.

Wish you get the meaning of what I say.

I heard that it’s bad to drink water (or other fluids) during meals. Is that true?
Actually, the opposite is true: It’s great to have a glass of water with you at the table. Some folks claim that consuming fluids with your food dilutes the bile and stomach acid needed to break down and absorb nutrients. But if anything, drinking water helps your stomach liquefy food, which aids in digestion and nutrient absorption; it may also prevent constipation and bloating by softening stools and keeping your digestive tract lubricated. Drinking H2O with your meals can also keep you from overeating. It helps fill you up faster and also encourages you to take breaks from your food, causing you to slow down and check in with your hunger signals.

    Drinking Water During Meals

    by Veronica
    (Hartford, Connecticut)
Here I will answer the question asked by Veronica, "Why can't you drink water while you eat food?" Though doctors can recommend that there is nothing wrong with drinking water during meals. As per yogic/ ayurvedic philosophy you must drink lot of water throughout the day, but avoid drinking water during meals. The stomach must not be heavily loaded. Half of the stomach should be filled with solid food, one fourth with watery portion and leave one fourth empty.

Also, keep in mind that fruits and vegetables itself contain large amount of water. It is recommended to drink minimal amount of water half an hour prior to eating meals and two hours after meals.

But there cannot be a hard and fast rule for drinking water. You may have to drink water if you are having meals after a hard day of work in hot and dry climate. The amount of water you drink depend on weather conditions and your physical activity levels. Also, the amount of water required will depend on type of food you are eating. If food is sattvik and consisting mostly of fruits and vegetables, water requirement will be minimal. Whereas for spicy Tamsik diet, water requirement will be more and you cannot avoid water with meals.

Also, remember that efficiency of digestion does not depend solely on the amount of water taken with meals. Take into account nutrition levels of your diet, lifestyle, stress levels and eating habits while analysing your digestion.

    Water During Meals
    1. Avoid drinking water with your meals. Drinking water with your meals dilutes the gastric juice and slows down the process of digestion in the stomach and intestines. Even if you need to drink water just sip water kept at room temperature. Ideally, Ayurvedic texts recommend sipping minimal amount of plain warm water during meals.

    2. Cold water during the meals reduces the digestive fire. Digestive enzymes become inactive, digestive process is hampered and leads to accumulation of toxic waste in the body. Hence drinking of iced water, soft drinks, sodas, tea or coffee or alcohol is strictly prohibited.

    3. Chew your food properly and it will easily pass down to your stomach. Do not drink water to swallow food in a hurry. If required drink water after swallowing food.
